A fabric liner soaks up a spill. A PVC one stops it from reaching the shelf at all. That difference decides which one you actually need.
Shelf and drawer liners split into two families that solve different problems. Fabric liners absorb moisture and cushion glassware, useful, but they hold onto whatever spilled rather than keeping it off the shelf. PVC liners do the opposite: liquid sits on top and wipes away, and the shelf underneath never sees it.
Where PVC earns its place
For kitchen cabinets, fridge interiors, wardrobe shelving and retail homeware displays, spill containment usually matters more than cushioning. Colour and pattern are both part of the customization, worth deciding based on whether the liner will actually be visible to a customer.
One thing to check before you order
Adhesive-backed liners stay put but are harder to remove or reposition later; non-adhesive liners install and lift out easily but can shift on a heavily used shelf. Decide based on how often the space gets reorganized, not just which sounds more secure.
