Custom Logo Rugs or Logo Mats? Printed Entrance Mats vs Plush Tufted Logo Rugs

A logo mat and a custom logo rug can carry the same artwork and do completely different jobs. Here's how printed entrance mats and plush tufted logo rugs differ, and where each one belongs.

Put the same logo on two mock-ups, one a printed entrance mat and one a custom logo rug, and they look almost identical on screen. Lay them on a floor and they don't. One is built to scrape grit off shoes at a door that opens two hundred times a day. The other is built to be stood on in socks.

If you're buying for a hotel, a store or a brand space, picking the wrong one is an expensive way to learn the difference. Here's how to choose.

The short answer

Choose a printed logo mat (nylon pile on a rubber backing) for entrances, checkouts and anywhere shoes bring in dirt and water. Choose a plush tufted logo rug for guest rooms, corridors, boutiques and display areas where comfort and a softer look matter more than scraping power. Many projects need both.

What a printed logo mat is

A printed logo mat starts as a low, dense nylon pile tufted into a base, coated, printed in full colour and then bonded to a rubber backing. On our nylon-and-rubber mats the production runs in that order: tufting, backing coating, printing, cutting, vulcanising the rubber bottom, needle inspection, then a final check and packing.

The result is a flat, tight surface that grabs dirt and soaks up water, with a rubber border that keeps the mat flat and stops it sliding. Pile on these mats is short: across our range it runs from about 3.5mm to 6mm, with pile weights from 450 to 950 g/mΒ², and total thickness options of 5, 6, 7 or 9mm. Printing is CMYK inkjet or ChromoJet, matched to your Pantone references.

That short, dense pile is the point. It holds a sharp print, it doesn't flatten into a path, and it can be vacuumed, hosed or (on washable constructions) laundered. It isn't soft, though. Nobody kicks off their shoes to stand on an entrance mat.

What a plush tufted logo rug is

A tufted logo rug uses a taller, softer pile. Ours is printed directly onto the tufted pile and finished with a rubber anti-slip backing, and the pile height, size and shape are all set to order. The feel is closer to a carpet than a mat.

That changes where it works. In a hotel room, a corridor, a boutique fitting area or a brand showroom, a logo rug adds comfort and reads as decor rather than equipment. At a rainy front door, the same rug would hold water, mat down where people walk and show every footprint.

"Tufted" can mean two things

When you compare quotes for custom logo rugs, check what "tufted" means on each one. Some suppliers build the logo out of coloured yarns, so the design is in the pile itself and has texture you can feel. Others, including us, tuft a pile first and print the artwork onto it.

Yarn-built logos have depth but limit you to a set number of solid yarn colours, and fine lettering or gradients are hard to reproduce. Printing on pile handles full-colour artwork, photos and gradients, and matches Pantone references more closely. If your logo is a simple two-colour mark, either works. If it has gradients or small text, printing is the safer route.

Side by side

Here is how the two compare where it matters for a buyer.

  • Best place: printed logo mat at entrances, checkouts and service points; tufted logo rug in rooms, corridors, boutiques and display areas.
  • Surface: printed mat has a short, dense nylon pile (about 3.5–6mm) that scrapes and absorbs; tufted rug has a taller, softer pile with a plush feel.
  • Backing: both use rubber to stay put. Printed mats come with standard or industrial-grade rubber and a rubber border.
  • Cleaning: printed mats can be vacuumed, rinsed and, on washable builds, laundered; tufted rugs are vacuumed and spot-cleaned like carpet.
  • Outdoor use: printed mats have outdoor constructions for covered and open entrances; tufted rugs belong indoors.

Projects that need both

Hotels are the classic case. Printed logo mats go at the street entrance and the lobby doors, where they take the dirt and water. Plush tufted logo rugs go in suites, outside lifts or in the lounge, where guests notice comfort. Both carry the same logo, matched to the same Pantone references, so the brand looks consistent from the door to the room.

Retail works the same way. A printed mat at the door, a softer logo rug in the fitting area or under a feature display. If you order both together, send one master artwork file and ask for colour matching across the two constructions; pile height changes how a colour reads, so approve both on proofs.

How to order

Tell us where each piece will sit, the size and quantity, and send your logo. We'll recommend the construction, confirm the layout on a free digital proof and, for bulk orders, produce a pre-production sample for approval. Stock items typically ship in 7–15 days and custom orders take 20–30 days.

FAQ

What's the difference between a logo mat and a custom logo rug? A logo mat has a short, dense nylon pile on rubber and is built for entrances that see dirt and water. A logo rug has a taller, softer pile and is built for comfort and decor in rooms, corridors and display areas.

Can a tufted logo rug go at an entrance? It's not a good idea at a busy or wet door. The soft pile holds water and flattens where people walk. Use a printed logo mat there and put the rug further inside.

Which handles detailed artwork better? Printing. Full-colour printing reproduces gradients, photos and small text; logos built from yarn are limited to solid colours.

Can both be made in the same brand colours? Yes. Both are matched to your Pantone references and confirmed on proofs before production.
