Custom Printed Car Floor Mats: What Dealerships and Accessory Brands Should Check Before Ordering
There are two very different products called "car mats" in the dealership world, and mixing them up wastes a budget line.
Ask ten people in a dealership for a "custom car mat" and you'll get two different products. Service departments often mean the disposable paper mat that goes down during an oil change and gets thrown out after. Accessory and marketing teams usually mean something else: a durable printed textile mat that goes home with the customer, or ships as part of a branded accessory line. Ordering the wrong one wastes a budget line and doesn't do what you actually needed.
This is the durable, branded version, not the throwaway one
A printed car floor mat set is built to stay in the vehicle: a polyester or nylon printed surface on an anti-slip rubber or spike backing, not a single-use paper sheet. That makes it the right fit for retail accessory ranges, dealership welcome gifts and promotional merchandise programs, cases where the mat represents the brand for months or years, not one service visit.
Nylon or polyester: it depends on the artwork
Nylon is lighter, flame-retardant and easy to wipe down, a practical everyday choice. Polyester takes higher-resolution photographic printing better, which matters if the design includes gradients, photography or fine detail rather than a flat logo. Tell us the design and we'll recommend the surface rather than leaving you to guess.
Sizing and shape
Standard front mats run 45×70cm and rear mats 33×45cm, a reasonable starting point if you're stocking a generic accessory line. For a fit tied to a specific model, send a template or the vehicle model and we cut a custom shape to match the footwell rather than trimming a generic rectangle on-site.
Backing and heel-pad options
The backing isn't just about grip, it's about whether the mat works with the vehicle's existing retention system. Some vehicles use OEM mat clips or hooks that a plain rubber backing won't engage; a spike backing is built for exactly that. If the mats are going into a specific model rather than sitting loose as an aftermarket accessory, mention the retention system when you request a quote.
Before you request a quote
- Confirm which product you actually need: a reusable branded mat, not disposable service paper.
- Decide nylon or polyester based on the artwork, not by default.
- Have a template ready if the mats need to fit a specific footwell shape.
- Ask about backing type, rubber or spike, depending on whether the mat needs to lock into factory retention clips.
We offer free digital proofs before production so you're approving the actual artwork, and stock designs can ship from inventory while custom shapes are confirmed in the quotation. See the full printed car mat range for details.
