Custom Dart Mats for Pubs, Retailers and Promotions: Throw Lines, Materials and Branding

A dart mat protects the floor from bounce-outs and puts the throw line in the same place every game. Here's how pubs, darts retailers and brands specify a custom dart mat: material, throw-line printing, size and branding.

A dart bounces off the wire and lands point-first on a wooden floor. Then another. After a season, the floor in front of a pub dartboard is covered in tiny holes, and the tape someone stuck down as a throw line has peeled at both ends.

A dart mat solves both problems at once. The mat takes the bounce-outs, and the printed throw line (the oche) stays exactly where it was printed. This guide is for people who buy mats in quantity: pubs and clubs, darts retailers, and brands using a dart floor mat as promotional merchandise.

The short answer

A custom dart mat is a printed floor mat that runs from below the dartboard to the throwing position, with the oche line printed on it and a non-slip backing underneath. Choose a nylon, polyester or sublimation construction by artwork and budget, tell us the throw distance your players use, and add your logo along the mat.

Why pubs and clubs use dart mats

Floor protection is the obvious reason. Bounced and dropped darts hit the dart mat instead of the floor, and the mat takes the foot traffic of players stepping up to the line all night.

Consistency is the second reason. A printed oche doesn't peel, slide or get kicked out of place, so every game starts from the same line. For a venue running a league night, that alone saves a lot of arguments.

Three dart mat constructions

We make dart mats in three printed constructions.

  • Nylon on latex: a 250gsm nylon face on a 700gsm latex backing, printed by spot-colour inkjet.
  • Polyester on latex: a 270gsm polyester face on a 600gsm latex backing.
  • Polyester on non-woven: a 190gsm polyester face on an 800gsm non-woven backing, printed by heat sublimation.

Choose by artwork and budget. Spot-colour inkjet on nylon suits a logo and throw line in solid colours. Heat sublimation on polyester suits detailed, photographic or full-bleed designs. If you can't decide, order samples of two constructions and throw a few hundred darts at them; the dart mat that still looks right is your answer.

Printing the throw line

The oche is the reason a dart mat exists, so get the throw line right before anything else. Darts rules differ between organisations and countries, and some mats carry more than one throw line for different formats. Tell us the exact distance or distances your players use, measured from the face of the board, and we print the lines to your measurements.

Where the dart mat starts matters as much as where the line is printed. Agree with your customers whether the front edge of the mat sits against the wall under the board, and position the line from that edge. Check the line on the proof before production, then check it again with a tape measure when the first mat arrives. A throw line that is a couple of centimetres out is worse than no line at all.

Size and branding

Dart mat length is custom. The mat must run from below the board past the furthest throw line, with room behind the line for the player to stand. Colours are black or custom to your artwork.

Branding goes where people look: along the sides of the dart mat, behind the throw line where players stand, and at the board end, where photos get taken. A drinks brand can supply mats to pubs as promotional merchandise with its logo along the mat, and a darts retailer can sell several designs on one construction. Our logo mat artwork guide covers file formats and colour matching, and our article on logo mats beyond the entrance shows other places a printed mat can carry a brand inside a venue.

Rolling, storage and delivery

Dart mats ship rolled, so a home player or a pub can roll the mat away after a match night and put it back down for the next one. Unroll a new mat early so it settles flat before the first game.

Stock items typically ship in 7–15 days and custom orders in 20–30 days, so plan league seasons and promotions around those lead times.

How to order

Send the construction, length, throw distance, artwork and quantity, and tell us whether the dart mats are for a venue, retail or a promotion. See the dart throw-line mat, the full sports mat range, or send us your brief.
