Chair Mats for Call Centres and Contact Centres: How to Specify a Bulk Order
A call centre has dozens or hundreds of chairs rolling on the same floor for two or three shifts a day. Here's how facilities teams and office suppliers specify chair mats in bulk: floor type, size, thickness, shape, packing and minimum order.

A contact centre with 200 seats runs two shifts a day, six days a week. Every agent pushes back from the desk, swivels to a colleague and rolls forward again hundreds of times a shift. After a year, the carpet under each desk has a grey, flattened oval worn into it, and in some places the backing shows through.
That oval is what chair mats prevent. This guide is for call centre facilities managers, fit-out contractors and the office suppliers who sell to them, and it covers how to specify chair mats for call centres in bulk.
The short answer
To specify chair mats for a call centre, decide five things: the floor type (a gripped underside for carpet, a smooth one for hard floors), the size that covers the chair's rolling area at each desk, the thickness, the shape (rectangular, lipped or T-shape) and how the mats are packed. Our clear PVC chair mats are made in standard sizes from 75×120cm to 117×153cm or to your size, 1.5mm to 3mm thick, from 200 pieces.
Floor type comes first
Carpet and hard floors need different mats, and getting this wrong is the most common mistake in a bulk order. On carpet, the mat needs a gripping underside: hundreds of small studs that push into the pile and stop the mat creeping across the floor as chairs roll. On hard floors, the mat needs a smooth or micro-dot underside that grips without scratching the floor.
Some buildings have both, for example carpet on the open floor and a hard floor in break areas and meeting rooms. Count the desks on each floor type separately before you ask for a quote. Our guide to chair mats for carpet and hard floors goes deeper on this choice.
Size: cover the rolling area, not just the chair
Watch an agent for ten minutes. The chair moves back, sideways to reach a drawer, and out into the aisle to talk to a team leader. The mat has to cover that whole area, or the castors drop off the edge and the carpet wears in a ring around the mat instead.
Our standard sizes are 75×120cm (30″×48″), 90×120cm (36″×48″), 122×122cm (48″×48″), 114×135cm (45″×53″) and 117×153cm (46″×60″), and other sizes are made on request. Workstation widths vary from one call centre to the next, so measure one workstation and send the dimensions; we will suggest the size that covers it without overlapping the next seat. Our chair mat size and thickness guide has more detail.
Thickness and shape
The clear PVC mat comes in 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm or 3mm, or a custom thickness. The right thickness depends on the floor, so tell us the carpet type and pile height and we will recommend one. Thinner mats are also lighter to ship in volume.
Rectangular mats suit most banked desks. A lipped mat has a tongue that slides under the desk to protect the floor where the agent's feet rest, and a T-shape works at corner workstations. Edges can be bevelled so the mat doesn't create a trip edge in a busy aisle.
Material and clarity
Our clear PVC office chair mat is 100% PVC, recyclable and BPA-free. Hard-floor mats can also be made in polycarbonate or high-purity PVC, which resist yellowing, so the floor underneath still shows through after months of use. In a call centre, where 200 mats sit side by side, one mat that yellows faster than its neighbours stands out.
Packing and delivery for a bulk order
Thinner chair mats ship rolled. When they arrive, lay them flat at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours before use, so the mats lie flat before the first shift rolls over them. Thick mats of 4mm or more are packed flat. If the fit-out runs to a tight opening date, plan the delivery a few days before the floor goes live.
Custom-cut chair mats start from 200 pieces. Stock items typically ship in 7–15 days and custom orders in 20–30 days, plus shipping.
The floor around the desks
Chair mats protect the floor under each seat; the carpet itself still takes the walking traffic. Modular carpet tiles suit a call centre floor because worn tiles in the aisles can be replaced one at a time without moving the desks. During a refit or a desk move, a clear PVC carpet protector runner laid along the main walkway protects the carpet from trolleys and contractors. Our office floor mats and carpet guide covers the rest of the office.
How to order
Send the number of desks on carpet and on hard floor, the size of one workstation, the carpet type, any lipped or T-shape positions and the delivery date. We recommend size and thickness and quote. See the chair mat range or send us your floor plan.

What size chair mat suits a call centre desk? One that covers the chair's whole rolling area. Standard sizes run from 75×120cm to 117×153cm, and other sizes are made on request.
What is the minimum order for custom chair mats? 200 pieces.
How are chair mats shipped? Thinner mats ship rolled and need 24 to 48 hours flat at room temperature before use; mats of 4mm or more ship flat.
