Office Floor Mats and Carpet: A Fit-Out Guide From Reception to the Desks

An office floor plan has five floor jobs: stop dirt at the door, carry the brand at reception, cover the open floor, protect it under the chairs and keep it clean on the busiest routes. Here's which office floor mats and carpet do each job, with links to our detailed guides.

Most office floors are specified in pieces. The fit-out contractor picks the carpet, someone in facilities orders chair mats a year later, and the entrance mat is whatever the cleaning company brought. The result works, but nothing was planned to work together.

This guide is for facilities managers, office fit-out contractors and workplace buyers. It covers office floor mats and carpet area by area, and links to our detailed guides for each product.

The short answer

A typical office needs a logo entrance mat at each door, carpet tiles on the open floor, clear PVC chair mats under desk chairs, clear carpet protector runners on the busiest walkways and anti-fatigue mats at standing workstations or service counters. Plan them together so the colours, sizes and order timing line up.

Entrance and reception: logo mats

The entrance mat protects every floor behind it, because most dirt in an office arrives on shoes. A nylon logo mat with a rubber backing traps dirt and moisture and puts the company logo in front of every visitor. Logo mats are matched to Pantone references and confirmed on a free digital proof. Our logo mat range shows the constructions.

The open floor: carpet tiles

Carpet tiles are the default for open-plan offices because the floor is modular: a stained or worn tile is swapped instead of re-carpeting the room. Our modular office carpet tile has a nylon or PP pile on a bitumen, PVC or cushion backing, in a full commercial colour range, and tiles come in sizes such as 50×50cm, 25×100cm and 60×60cm.

We've written the detail in separate guides:

Under the desks: chair mats

Desk chairs wear tracks into carpet and scratch hard floors. A clear PVC office chair mat protects the floor and lets castors roll smoothly. It's 100% PVC, with a gripped backing for carpet or a smooth backing for hard floors, in thicknesses of 1.5mm to 3mm and standard sizes from 75×120cm to 117×153cm. Our guide to chair mat sizes and thickness explains the choice.

Busy walkways: carpet protector runners

Some routes take far more traffic than the rest of the floor: the path from the lift to the kitchen, the corridor past the meeting rooms. A clear PVC carpet protector runner rolls out along those routes and under desks, cut to length, with a smooth or studded base.

Standing workstations and service counters

Where people stand for hours, at a print room, a mail desk or a service counter, an industrial anti-fatigue mat cushions them with PU foam made for 8-hour standing shifts, on a non-slip base with a bevelled edge. It's made to the size and shape of the station.

Ordering for an office fit-out

Send the floor plan or a list of areas with sizes, the carpet tile colours, the number of desks and your logo artwork. We'll quote the set together. Stock items typically ship in 7–15 days and custom orders in 20–30 days after approval, plus shipping; MOQs are confirmed in the quote, and the clear PVC chair mat has an MOQ of 200 pieces. Send us your office plan.

Do offices need chair mats on carpet tiles? Yes. A clear PVC chair mat with a gripped backing protects carpet tiles from castor wear and lets chairs roll smoothly.

What entrance mat should an office use? A nylon logo entrance mat with a rubber backing traps dirt and water at the door and carries the company logo.

Can office floor mats and carpet be ordered together? Yes. Send the floor plan, sizes and artwork, and we quote the logo mats, carpet tiles, chair mats and runners as one set.
